Visit Khai Nguyen Pagoda
Khai Nguyen Pagoda in Son Tay, also known as Tan Vien Pagoda, with its full name Tan Vien Son Quoc Tu, dates back to the Ly Dynasty in the early 11th century. Built upon an ancient foundation and following traditional architecture, the pagoda was recently restored in 2008, beautifully preserving its blend of ancient and modern elements without disrupting its historical space and value. Nestled in a peaceful and picturesque countryside, the pagoda features a perfectly square pond, lush greenery, and fragrant flowers blooming throughout the four seasons. This serene environment offers a tranquil atmosphere for Buddhists and visitors when they enter the pagoda.

Visit Son Tay Ancient Citadel
The citadel was built in the 3rd year of Minh Mang’s reign (1822) and is the only ancient fortress in Vietnam constructed from laterite stone. It features unique architecture, such as laterite stone walls and four ancient brick gates. It is one of the few remaining fortresses from the Minh Mang era, built solidly to protect the northwestern region of Thang Long.

Visit Duong Lam Ancient Village
Duong Lam Ancient Village is located in Son Tay Town, about 50 kilometres west of Hanoi’s city centre. It is the first ancient village in Vietnam to be recognized as a National Historical and Cultural Site (in 2006). Duong Lam is notable for its laterite stone houses, ancient communal houses, and a traditional northern Vietnamese village system featuring village roads, wells, and banyan trees. Visitors enter through the ancient village gate and visit Mong Phu communal house, the Ba Chua Mia shrine, and the Giang Van Minh Confucian temple. Guests can stroll along the village paths, explore ancient dwellings, and enjoy local specialities such as sticky rice wine and che lam (traditional sesame rice candy).

Visit the Cane Pagoda
Mia Pagoda is one of the most famous and ancient pagodas in Duong Lam Village, Son Tay Town, Hanoi. It is a spiritual destination and a cultural and architectural heritage site, attracting many visitors and pilgrims from all over.
This pagoda houses one of the largest collections of ancient Buddha statues in Vietnam, with over 280 statues in total. |
